PSG squander a 2-0 lead at home against Brest

Reading Time: 3min | Mon. 29.01.24. | 00:55

The visitors are a hit in Ligue 1 this season and ended the game 2-2

Ahead of tonight’s game with PSG, Brest was the third-best team in Ligue 1 as a guest. The first place belongs to the Parisians, while Monaco is the second, but Brest lost only three games away from their stadium until tonight. So, the players led by Killian Mbappe, along with the coach Luis Enrique, had to be aware of the team, which is a total surprise so far in France and currently sits in third place on the table. But they obviously weren’t, and they haven’t learned the lesson from the first game in the season, so they ended up squandering a 2-0 lead: PSG – Brest 2-2.

In the first part of the season, PSG took a 2-0 lead in Brest before the host levelled the game but Mbappe scored a late winner, their 14th consecutive against Brest. But that remarkable series ended tonight in Paris, and the game had almost the same end. Almost, as this time Mbappe didn’t score a late winner. In fact, the Parisians played so badly in the second half that they didn’t have a single shot on target for 45 minutes!

Bradley Barcola was the main threat for Brest in the first half. The youngster, brought in from Lyon, penetrated the visitor's defence on many occasions and finally made an assist to Asensio for the leading goal in the 38th minute. And when Kolo Muani scored the second in the last minute of the first half, the PSG fans were thrilled, as they were relieved to see a two-goal difference against a tricky opponent. But Brest fought back and scored in the 55th minute. Del Castillo found Mahdi Camara in the box, his tame effort was slid past Donnarumma by Pereira, and suddenly it was 2-1. The guests looked much better, while the Parisian couldn’t muster a simple shot on target. Brest coach Eric Roy made two great changes as both players who came in participated with the second goal. Satriano assisted to Pereira Lage with a beautiful pass through the legs of PSG’s Pereira, and Lage scored with his heel for the total turnaround. PSG had some half-chances in the last 10 minutes, but if you want to score, you need to have a shot on target, and they failed to do even that.
