The former Les Parisiens' striker has already filed a lawsuit against the Parisians

Paris labor court was the epicenter of the legal fight between millionaires. Unlike some other cases, in which sacked workers who are left with no means of living are suing their employees, this was the case in which a state owned club (Qatar - PSG) is suing a multimillionaire (Kylian Mbappe) and vice versa - a bizarre case indeed. Lawyers of both parties stated their cases for three hours and exchanged accusations for breaking agreed deals and causing psychological harassment.

Let‘s start from the beginning. It all goes back to the start of the 2023/24 when it became obvious that Kylian Mbappe will not sign an extension with PSG and that he will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season. The Parisians were about to be left without any transfer fee and they excluded him from the first team. The dispute was settled and he was back for the first round of Ligue 1 championship but now we found out that nothing was settled. PSG maintains that this reinstatement was the result of an agreement reached in August 2023 between the two parties, stipulating that the player would forgo a portion of the sums owed at the end of his contract to protect the club's financial health. Mbappe‘s lawyers denied the existence of any such deal.

So, the player and his lawyers are still demanding the huge sum from the club. They are claiming 44.6 million euros for unfair dismissal 37.5 million for psychological harassment, and 19 million euros for back pay and vacation pay for the months of April to June 2024, which, among other things, makes 235 million in total. PSG‘s reply? A 440 million euros lawsuit!

"Twenty million for damage to image, 60 million for bad faith in the execution of an agreement dated August 2023, 180 million for the concealment of this agreement and 180 million for loss of opportunity to transfer the player," detailed one of five club‘s lawyers, Renaud Semerdjian.

The club also released an official statement attacking their former player for ‘acting in bad faith‘.

"The club wishes to reiterate that it has done everything possible, for over a year, to reach an amicable solution to allow all parties to move forward, in accordance with the relationship of cooperation and trust that should exist between a club and its player. Several bodies involved in this dispute have encouraged an amicable settlement, which the club has always pursued in good faith. Despite these repeated efforts, Mr. Mbappe has continually attacked the club at every opportunity, including through the proceedings initiated today — a regrettable situation for the player himself, as well as for French football as a whole" reads the statement.

As for psychological harassment accusations, Mbappe‘s lawyer spoke about it in court in lenght, even giving example of Kylian‘s younger brother Ethan ‘in tears in the locker room‘. PSG dismissed the accusations, citing photos of the player "all smiles" during training in the "loft" where he had been placed. They also mentioned the "tifo" celebrating the player's last match in Paris colors and the "private party organized" for his departure by the player himself, in the presence of "club management and staff members". The final decision about this case will be made by December 16th.
