One of the best full-backs in English Premier League history will start his career in Italy’s second division
Ashley Cole, the former defender who played for clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea and one of the best full-backs in the history of the Premier League, has been appointed as the new head coach of Cesena FC, currently competing in Serie B. The role marks the first time Cole will take full charge of a team as a manager.
"Cesena FC announces the appointment of Ashley Cole as first-team coach. The new manager has signed a contract until June 30, 2026, with an option to extend subject to certain conditions," the 'bianconero' club reported.

Although this will be his first opportunity to lead a side independently, Cole already brings experience from several notable coaching roles. In 2021, he became part of the staff with the England U21 setup. Between 2022 and 2023, he worked as an assistant to Frank Lampard at both Everton and Chelsea, and later served alongside Wayne Rooney at Birmingham City.
After those spells, Cole returned to the The Football Association, first assisting Lee Carsley with the under-21 national team. He was then promoted to the senior national team staff, working as an assistant coach between August and November 2024.
