Posta midfielder on how weeks' preparation led to his goal against Kenya Police

The 31-year-old needed no second invitation to punish the Law Enforcers' apparent lapses in build-up

Posta midfielder Jackson Macharia says his team’s analysis of Kenya Police FC during the week played a big role in them toppling the Law Enforcers on Friday, 13 March.

Macharia, speaking after Posta’s 2-0 win at Kasarani Annex, said a look at Police’s video footage from their last Premier League game against Bandari on Sunday, 1 March, presented them with a chance of nicking a first league win in 2026.

What Macharia and the rest of the team saw on the screen was the Kenya Police back-line coughing up possession in the 62nd minute to hand Frank Ouya a free run at goal, only for the striker to hit his effort straight at keeper Daniel Ogembo.

That, as per Macharia, was the slightest chink in Police’s armour, which Posta dared would repeat itself in their meeting on Friday.

Seven minutes was all it took for it to happen, as a successful spell of pressure from Posta ended with defensive midfielder David Owino ceding possession in a dangerous area to Macharia, who was at the right place and time to tuck in the opener with his first touch.

Speaking about the goal, which was his second in as many league matches, the 31-year-old said: “We analysed Kenya Police during the week, and in their last game - I think against Bandari - there was a ball their midfielder lost in the same position, but Bandari did not utilise the chance.

After analysing the situation, we predicted they would repeat it, and all it needed was concentration to pull the ball into the net. That is what I did, and it bore us fruit.”

Macharia’s early strike, unlike in their drawn tie against Gor Mahia on Thursday, 5 March, was this time made to stick, as Posta doubled their lead in the second-half through substitute Dinken Mwema.

The two goals earned Posta their first win in 11 league matches, while ending a run of nine league matches without a clean sheet.

“Our position in the league is very wanting," Macharia, who rejoined the team for the second time in the January transfer window, told Azam TV post-match.

“I think the confidence from the coach is key, and I entered the second leg with my experience to come on and help the team, since there was a scarcity in goals.

I am appreciative of the fact that I am getting the chance to play and doing what the coach is asking me to.”

He hopes his side will be in the mood to string a couple more good results, and lift themselves from their 12th place on the log.
