Speaking to Mozzart Sport, the defender highlighted the adverse impact of prolonged salary delays on the team’s performance last season, noting that off-field struggles nearly cost them their top-flight status.

"The management has to step up because this is our profession and livelihood, not just for us but for our families as well.

Proper motivation going into the season can make a huge difference, unlike last season when poor welfare became a major stumbling block,” said Ochieng.

Posta found themselves battling for survival after a season plagued by financial uncertainty.

Players reportedly went up to six months without salaries during the campaign and are currently enduring a five-month delay — a situation that, according to Ochieng, demoralised the squad and compromised their competitiveness.

Despite finishing the season with 35 points, the Mailmen were forced into a relegation playoff against second-tier side Naivas FC.

A 2-0 victory in the first leg at Thika Stadium, courtesy of a Felix Oluoch brace, gave them a crucial cushion, allowing them to edge the tie 2-1 on aggregate after a 1-0 loss in the return leg.

Ochieng reserved glowing praise for head coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo, crediting his leadership and resilience for holding the team together during one of the club’s most challenging periods.

"Coach Pamzo was the glue that kept us intact. Despite the financial strain, he supported us emotionally and even financially in small ways.

He acted like a father figure. That motivated us to fight for him and, ultimately, to secure our FKFPL status,” he noted.

The former Gor Mahia, Shabana FC, and Kakamega Homeboyz defender believes that a strong start will be vital in steering clear of relegation trouble in the upcoming campaign.

"We must be ruthless in the first leg of the season because the second half is always more intense. If we accumulate points early, we’ll give ourselves a better chance of finishing well,” he added.
