Police settle for bronze in FKF Women's Cup after shooting down Zetech

Ulinzi Starlets will play Kibera Soccer Ladies in the final at the same venue

Kenya Police Bullets have finished third in the FKF Women’s Cup after coming from behind to edge Zetech Sparks 4-3 in the playoff staged at the Police Sacco Grounds.

The two sides were relegated to the playoff after faltering in the semifinals of the cup.

Police were eliminated by Ulinzi Starlets following a 4-2 post-match penalties shootout loss while Zetech fell to Kibera Soccer Ladies 2-1.

Although Police failed to reach the final, they will take consolation in the fact that they clinched the league title in their first time of asking.

Police were crowned champions last month in Kisumu and will consequently, feature in the CECAFA Women Club Championship to be held in August in Ethiopia.

The triumphant team in the regional showpiece will secure ticket to the CAF Champions League.

With the league title in the bag and their focus being fully trained on the regional tournament, Police presumably went to the playoff against Zetech looking to assess their preparedness for the task ahead.

Adding another medal to the collection was certainly at the back of the player’s minds.

They had to do it the hard way as Zetech took the lead in the 15th minute through Violet Akinyi, a goal that separated the two sides up to the halftime whistle.

Diana Wacera leveled matters for Police in the 54th minute before Puren Alukwe netted the second in the 60th minute.

Akinyi replied for Zetech in the 65th minute with Foscah Nashivanda getting the third for the students moments later.

Police had Lucky Kwekwe and Rebecca Okwaro to thank as their late goals won them the tie.

Beldine Odemba’s charges headed to the game a motivated lot after being hosted to a celebratory breakfast by patron Dr. Raymond Omollo.

The men’s team, that clinched the Mozzart Bet Cup, was also present.
