While Vihiga have an unassailable lead, Trans Nzoia are wary of third and fourth placed teams whileEldoret, Oserain fight relegation
Women Premier League (WPL) title holders Vihiga Queens will on Saturday 13 February play title hopefuls Trans Nzoia Falcons at the latter’s home stadium in Kitale from noon as the hosts look to cut Vihiga’s lead and dominance in the zone.
Another zone B clash on the same day, at the same time, has bottom-placed Eldoret Falcons playing away in Naivasha to Oserian Ladies who are also wallowing in the relegation zone at seventh place with just a point to their name.
Alex Alumira’s Vihiga are yet to lose a match, dropping only two points in six matches with a draw away to Nakuru West Queens. The side is coming off a 3-0 win against Kisumu All Starlets and maximum points away in Kitale will take them six points clear of second-placed Trans Nzoia.
Their opponent Trans Nzoia, under coach Chris Amwayi, are looking to turn the tide in their favour where a win would take them level on points with Vihiga, at13, but with an inferior goal difference.
Amwayi’s charges are under more pressure as a loss will potentially relegate them to third place depending on the outcome of a Sunday zone B match between third-placed Wadadia and Kisumu who are fourth on the log at 10 points, two behind Wadadia.
“All my players are available for selection. We expect a tough opponent in Trans Nzoia despite having beaten them 4-1 and 2-1 in our home and away encounters respectively in the 2019 season. We cannot be complacent,” offered Alumira.
In the bottom-of-the-table clash, the two sides are chasing their first win of the league. The hosts, Oserain, have an upper hand having held second-placed Trans Nzoia to a one-all draw in their last league match.
Oserain head coach Hudson Odari is upbeat his charges will deliver, giving them a chance to fight their way out of the relegation zone in the second leg of the league.
