Kenya is now third in the group with five points from four matches
Harambee Stars put up a strong performance to hold African champions Ivory Coast to a 0-0 draw in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Lilongwe, Malawi, on Tuesday, June 11.
Here at Mozzart Sport, we take a look at how the Kenyan players performed in this contest.

Patrick MatasiGoalkeeper
He was commanding in goal, making several impressive saves when called upon. Although he wasn't tested frequently, he showed significant improvement compared to the Burundi game. His crucial save from a free kick just before halftime kept Kenya in the match. He kept a clean sheet in the game against a top opposition.

Alphonce OmijaDefense
He began well in his first start for the senior team, having progressed through the national team's ranks. However, the pressure mounted as the match wore on, and Ivory Coast exploited his flank to deliver crosses. Despite this, he stood tall, throwing his body on the line towards the end to deny the African champions a goal-scoring opportunity.

Daniel AnyembeDefense
He was solid at the back as compared to the last match; naturally, a full back, Anyembe had minimal mistakes and was neat on build-ups. Glad to leave with a clean sheet

Johnstone OmurwaDefense
Overall, he had a strong performance. He was tidy in build-ups and excellent in box defending. His aerial duels were crucial in the final minutes, keeping Kenya in the game as the Ivorians pressed for a goal.

Aboud OmarDefense
Arguably, the best player on the field for Harambee Stars today, without the ball, he was always tracking and understood his defending assignment well, though he offered little offensive

Anthony AkumuMidfield
For someone currently without a club, it was one of his best performances in national team colours. He controlled the midfield expertly, creating space for his partner, Richard Odada, to move forward and support the attack. By throwing himself into challenges, he set the tone for the rest of the squad and played a key role in the offence. Akumu also disrupted Ivorian attacks effectively and was more progressive compared to the last match.

Richard OdadaMidfield
As the national team number 8, a lot is expected of him; he was progressive in the match and connected beautiful passes across the park, but still has a lot to offer.

5

Timothy OumaMidfield
He was Kenya's key outlet in the game, which explains why Engin Firat stuck with him despite his poor performance against Burundi. Out of the four chances created by Kenya in the two World Cup qualifier games, Ouma is credited with creating two of them. Although he missed a clear scoring opportunity in the 71st minute.

Rooney OnyangoDefense
Always giving his all for the national team, he was confident on the ball from start to finish. Alongside Omija, he effectively neutralized Adingra Simon. His defensive work was excellent, and he seized opportunities to drive forward in attack. However, he still needs to improve his decision-making.

Michael OlungaAttack
He had a game where not everything went his way. As a player of his caliber, he should have scored in the 71st minute when the ball fell to him after Timothy Ouma's miss. Despite this, he had a good game, holding up play and contributing all over the pitch. However, as the captain, we expect him to deliver goals.

Kenneth MugunaMidfield
Nothing productive came from him; he had an average outing and hope that he grows ahead of the upcoming matches
Rating
5

Duke AbuyaMidfield
Duke was lively when he came in, and Kneya seemed to push more forward with him on the field.
