Coach Pinto revealed that Silva needs plenty of time to adapt before he is thrown into the fray
Football mad Gor Mahia fans have to wait longer to see their new Brazilian striker Wilson Silva Fonseca in action in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL).
Head coach Vaz Pinto revealed that it will take a little longer before the player adapts fully to make a start. The player is yet to feature in any of the matchday squads in the two games Gor Mahia have played since signing him 29th January,
“You know in Brazil the season finished in December and he stopped training. He has just started his preseason and he needs some weeks to improve. We don’t want to take any risks because he has trained for only one week. Because of that, it’s important to give more time to improve, to be fit, to understand our game of course, see the games and understand the football in Kenya. Everything is important for the player to adapt,” noted Vaz Pinto.
With the exception of Selecao Ze Maria two previous Brazilian imports to Gor Mahia left bitter tastes to the club faithful. The most recent one happened when former head coach Roberto Oliveira was tasked with leading the mantle at the club.
During Gor’s continental duties away to APR of Rwanda, CAF banned the head coach due to failure in meeting the requisite coaching badges. Gor Mahia then went on to terminate the coach’s contract after Football Kenya Federation also stated that the coach did not meet the qualifications.
Before that, back in 2013, Gor signed Giovani Rodriguez, another Brazilian. Upon arrival, then head coach Zdravko Logarusic dismissed the player after it turned out that the player was not even fit to play.
Not giving up, Gor decided to cast their net once more in the South American country, catching Wilson Silva Fonseca. The left footed 20 year old Brazilian is the first signing the defending champions have made in the ongoing open transfer window with the player joining from Brazilian Seria A side Fortaleza Sporting Club.
Upon unveiling, Fonseca showcased his Brazilian dancing moves in training but the Gor faithful will have to wait a little bit longer to experience that elusive Samba feel on the pitch.
