Either Gor Mahia or AFC Leopards is set to represent the country in CAF Confederation Cup as both teams are in the final of the FKF Cup that gives the only ticket

Two of the best placed clubs to feature in next season's continental football Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards are sweating over a proclamation by CAF restricting clubs that have failed to honor their contractual agreements with their current and former players and coaches.

In a circular sent to all national associations affiliated with the continental body, CAF sought to remind all clubs that are scheduled to take part in CAF Interclubs competitions in 2021/2022 season to ensure that they do not have open cases of overdue payables ahead of the new campaign.

"With reference to the above-mentioned subject, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that CAF continues to receive a large number of complaints concerning overdue payables towards Players and Coaches (former and current), as well as overdue payables towards Clubs resulting from transfer activities. Therefore, you are kindly requested to remind all your clubs who are participating in CAF Men’s and Women’s Interclubs Competitions 2021/22 season (Licensees), that they must ensure that they do not have any open cases of overdue payables," read part of the communique.

Gor Mahia might be rediscovering their good form in time, just when other clubs are stuttering in the title race going by their recent run, but they risk being out of continental duties if they do not act on their already existing claimants.

Going by the fact that the FKF Cup final will pit these two sworn rivals, it is only logical that either of the two clubs can take part in the CAF Confederation Cup competition, but with the contractual issues, will it come to be?

AFC Leopards are on the spotlight for failing to Andre Casa Mbungo, Marko Vasiljevic, and Vincent Habamaro their dues while Gor Mahia are in trouble for failing to honor their contractual agreements with Ugandan Shaffik Batambuze and Tanzanian winger Dickson Ambundo.

In February, FIFA ordered Ingwe to pay Habamahoro Ksh1.7 million who left the club in December 2019 after allegedly going for four months without pay while Ambundo took up the matter with FIFA over Ksh 1.2M owed to him by the Kenyan giant.

Ingwe owes Marko Ksh360,000 in salary arrears and match-winning bonuses, which the club has failed to pay for the last two years.

CAF have thus given Football Kenya Federation the mandate to ensure that the clubs given the chance to take part in CAF competitions have no overdue payables lest both the club and the federation risk being sanctioned.

"The Member Associations of CAF, through the Club Licensing Manager, the Club Licensing First Instance Body and other concerned bodies at the level of the federation must ensure that the clubs engaged in the CAF Interclub competitions do not have any overdue payable cases in order to avoid any sanctions," read part of the statement by CAF

Apart from missing on next year's editions of CAF competitions, the two clubs risk serving a transfer ban or even relegation to lower leagues until they clear the arrears.
