The 27-year-old will reunite with his former head coach who he played under at FC Midtjylland.

After spending half a season with Spanish La Liga side Cadiz, Kenyan born midfielder Awer Mabil has been shipped out on loan to Czech Republic's most successful club, Sparta Prague.

The 27-year-old joined Sparta on a loan expiring at the end of the season with an option to buy should he fulfil some of the performance indicators in his contract.

Mabil who was born to South Sudanese parents in one of the largest refugee camps in Kakuma, Kenya endured limited game time in Cadiz, making only five appearances since August.

The former FC Midtjylland midfielder will be linking up with his former coach Brian Prisk, who he played under during his stint with the Danish club as he was left delighted with the reunion.

“I played my best football under coach Prisk. We know each other really well. He's an ambitious guy, so we have those ambitions in common. And it will be our goal to prove it here.

I want to fight for titles. So the main motivation why I came here is to win, to fight for the title and also to play European cups again. I played the Champions League with my former team in Denmark.

It was a great feeling and I would really like to experience it again. That's my goal here,” said Mabil.

Sparta Prague is the most successful club in Czech Republic with a record 36 league titles to their name, in Europe only Benfica (37), Olympiacos (47), Celtic (52), Rangers (55) and Linfield (56) have been crowned domestic Champions more times than Sparta.

Former Arsenal midfielder Tomáš Rosický who is currently Sparta’s Sporting Director reserved glowing tribute to Mabil as he waxed lyrical on his experience.

“Awer is an attacking winger, a hard-working player who can play one-on-one. He has experience in international matches, having played both in the jersey of the national team of Australia and in UEFA competitions.

He is a team player with a winning mentality. The advantage is that the coach knows him well because they spent some time together in Midtjylland,” Rosický.

Mabil appeared twice for Australia at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar where the nation exited the tournament at the Round of 16 hurdle.
