Mudenyu joined AFC Leopards from Sony Sugar in 2018

AFC Leopards defender Robert Mudenyu has revealed that his contract with the club has expired but hopes that he can reach a renewal agreement with the club.

The central defender has been in Ingwe's books for the last three years and his deal with the club expired at the end of June. He is now a free agent.

The player appears not to be in any hurry to move away from the den saying his stay with the Patrick Aussems led team has been blissful.

"It is true my contract with Leopards has expired. I have been here for three years and I can say I have enjoyed my time with the team. There have been good and bad times which it normal in the society," the player told Mozzart Sport.

The former Muhoroni Youth and Sony Sugar man is keen on signing a new deal with the club. He reveals that there have been initial renewal discussions with the club.

"There have been initial talks and I hope we reach an agreement soon. I want to continue playing for Leopards," he added.

Mudenyu's desire to continue with Leopards is a big boost for the team that's currently on a transfer embargo.

The team was slapped with a two-window transfer ban for failing to pay their former captain Soter Kayumba his due as directed by FIFA. FIFA then moved to slap the club with a two-window ban meaning they will only recruit new players at the end of next season.

The priority for the club will be retaining their current players to avert a crisis next season.

Ingwe lifted the maiden Elijah Lidonde Cup on Sunday after beating Nzoia Sugar FC in the final staged at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega. The match had to be settled from the spot after it ended in barren stalemate.
