The striker struggled for game time earlier in the season but he appears to be on course to achieve his target for the season

"More playing time is the reason for my improved form”. These were the words of KCB striker Derrick Otanga when he was queried on his recent form.

The 2021/2022 Golden Boot winner had a low start to the season playing second fiddle to Francis Kahiro for the better part of the second leg.

Since the exit of Kahiro who joined Bandari, Otanga appears to have rediscovered his form as his numbers in the second leg have been swelling.

The striker has found the back of the net four times in the last five matches.

He found the back of the net against Kakamega Homeboyz, a brace against Shabana and was on target over the weekend in their 3-1 win against Bidco in the Mozzart Bet Cup round of 16 contest.

The former CS Constantine, striker fancies the challenge of leading the team as KCB gears up for the homestretch of the season.

"I am a professional and I knew my time to play would come so I had to be ready," said the striker on his readiness to lead the frontline.

As the league resumes after a month-long hiatus, KCB will be visitors to Bidco United, a repeat of last weekend’s contest.

Otanga is confident that the bankers will deposit the three points in their account at the end of the day.

"We struggled after most key players left the team. It took a little more time to gel and I believe we have improved and are now headed in the right direction," he said.

As KCB sits 9th in the league standings, they are banking on the impressive form of Otanga to climb up the table.

With a minimum target of 10 league goals set for himself, Otanga's current tally of 6 goals indicates he's well on track to achieve his goal, as long as he maintains his recent form.
