Osimhen injured, ruled out for World Cup qualifiers

And what is worse, they will have to do it without their best player. Victor Osimhen is injured and won’t be available to the coach in two huge games in June when Nigeria continues its path to the World Cup 2026.

Nigeria, who failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, have two points from as many matches in the qualifications for the next World Cup. They are now facing two tricky games: a home one against South Africa (07.06) and a road game in Benin (10.06). The Super Eagles will also start their run of games with a new coach. Former footballer Finidi George took over as the boss after serving under former Jose Peseiro, who was relieved of his duties after AFCON and faces a tough task without his first striker. Osimhen played probably his last game for Napoli just two days ago, when he entered as a sub in the 65th minute and finished the game in a goalless draw with Lecce.
