The Italian won the most important life battle, becoming an inspiration and an epitome of a never-give-up spirit
The case of Edoardo Bove shook the whole world 14 months ago. In the 17th minute of the Serie A clash between Fiorentina and Inter Milan, on December 1, 2024, the young midfielder collapsed on the pitch, where he was resuscitated and immediately taken to the hospital, while the game was halted.
Most importantly, he survived, but had to undergo a procedure and be implanted with a subcutaneous cardiac defibrillator (ICD), a device that monitors and corrects possible severe arrhythmias. However, just like in the case of Christian Eriksen, the doors of Italian football have been closed for him. Forever.
The rules on the Boot are strict, but England was there to provide shelter. The Dane was forced to leave Inter and joined Brentford, while Bove moved to Watford after leaving Fiorentina.
Still, all these procedures took time. Plenty of it. 440 days to be precise. And after almost a year and a half, the man who won the most important life battle, Edoardo Bove, returned to the pitch.
Eduardo Bove made his return after 14 months, coming on for Watford.

His first game since his December 2024 heart attack, now playing in England due to Italy’s ban with a defibrillator. ❤️🥹pic.twitter.com/oM1vZfmhRW
For the first time since that horrendous December night, the 23-year-old played football - which many thought was impossible after what had happened to him - clocking five minutes in his Watford debut in a 2-2 draw against Preston North End yesterday.
A special moment for a very emotional Edoardo Bove and family after making his comeback as a football player 13 months after suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch in Italy. #WatfordFC @BBCSport3CR pic.twitter.com/PaBsEJRh6X

Following the match, he was seen hugging his family in the stands. Only they know what he has been through in the past 440 days. He probably doesn't know what they have been through while he was fighting for his life.
But he won that battle, and now he's back - hopefully, with many games and a successful career ahead of him. Because when one defies death and survives what Bove survived, no football challenge can stop him from achieving great things.
