The league newbies are sixth on the National Super League standings and a win against the limping Silibwet will see them reduce the gap between them and league leaders Mathare United to a point and Omulama is optimistic his side will deliver

Luanda Villa captain Vincent Omulama has backed Villa to maintain their perfect start to the season as they take on rejuvenating Silibwet Leons at Bomet IAAF Stadium on Sunday.

The league newbies are sixth on the National Super League standings and a win against the limping Silibwet will see them reduce the gap between them and league leaders Mathare United to a point and Omulama is optimistic his side will deliver.

Villa, who are in the league by virtue of winning FKF Division One Zone B, have recorded wins over Mombasa Elite and Kibera Black Stars while staging stalemates against Kisumu All Stars, Kajiado, Dimba Patriots, Mulembe United, Rainbow, and Naivas FC though the team skipper believes the club has now grown in the league and are ready to fight for maximum points against any opponent.

"The players together with the technical bench are working extra hard to ensure we don't lose any game because our goal is to always emerge as winners and if you look at the standings right now, Villa are doing quite well and we don’t intend to stop there,” asserted the former Sigalagala Poly FC defender.

The central defender who can also be deployed as a right back further outlined his team’s area of weakness noting that the club has struggled to find the back of the net in the previous outings however, he affirmed that the technical bench under former AFC Leopards man Tom Tera had addressed the goal drought in training sessions.

“Before the Kisumu All Stars match the team was struggling to score goals and that is our main undoing this season. However, the coaches have been actively engaged with our strikers in various drilling sessions to try to find a solution to that. If we can score and defend for the entire game then no one is going to pick points easily from us,” he added.

Omulama segments were echoed by the team field captain Pheniahs Omukatu who revealed the team's desire of gracing the top tier at their first of asking.

We have trained very well this week and as a team, we are going for a win, our key objective is to try and win all the matches and then win ourselves a slot in the top flight at the end of the season,” offered Omukatu.

Meanwhile, Luanda gaffer Tom Tera has warned his charges about underrating their Sunday opponents Silibwet Leons despite underperforming in the league suggesting that there are no pushovers in the second tier.

He further lauded Silibwet tactician Mark Otieno Asa for the work he has done with his young squad and tipped them to flourish once they master team chemistry.

"Silibwet is a very good side that we cannot discredit even though they are not at their best at the moment. They have quality and a good coach who knows how to use his squad and he has the potential of reaching new heights if he maintains the same team. We are going for a fight and hopefully come back with all the points,” said Tera.
