FC Talanta defender Ian Omondi has urged his teammates to be solid at the back if they are to finish in a respectable position compared to the previous campaign at the end of the season.

The fast-rising defender joined Talanta last season from FKF Division 2 side Leeds United and gradually cemented his position in the team as an important figure in Talanta's backline.

Omondi has been involved in all ten matches, clocking full minutes except for the Nzoia clash, where he was among the substitutes but came in halfway before the interval.

Talanta recorded their third and highest win of the season following their 3-0 thumping of Sofapaka in Machakos, where they managed not to concede a goal for the third time in the season.

Talanta have been fairly doing well under the stewardship of seasoned tactician Ken Kenyatta and are currently placed seventh on the table, six points shy of Posta Rangers, who are at the summit of the log.

Kenyatta's men have been clinical upfront, and they boast of the second-best-scoring side, having scored 13 goals, one less than Rangers. However, they have been leaking goals at the back, a situation that Omondi wants his fellow teammates to improve on.

"I am pleased with how we have performed so far. I think this is one of the best starts to the season we are having compared to the previous season. We have been dangerous on goal, creating opportunities and converting them, but we have not been solid enough defensively. I am concerned with our backline because, despite scoring, we have been letting in goals as well. I only want to urge my fellow defenders to be more ruthless in defending so as to protect leads that we have largely dropped after going ahead," he stated.

The towering right-footed center-back equally believes they stand a chance of being in contention should they keep collecting maximum points.

"The league is wide open, and every team can dream of challenging for the title, and as such, we are not left behind in the equation. I strongly believe if we can keep bagging maximum points, then I am sure we can dream of FKF Premier League glory at the end of the campaign," he concluded.

On Friday, Talanta will host Muhoroni Youth, who are currently rooted at the bottom of the table ahead of the international break. Omondi says he anticipates a tough match, but he's optimistic they will go for the break on a high.

"We take on Muhoroni on Friday, and I honestly foresee a very tough encounter. They are fighting to be off the hook, but I am confident we will carry the day. I hope we can win the match and go into the break on a high note," he concluded.
