Johanna Omolo and Erzurumspor have to turn their fortunes around quickly after their latest loss to Göztepe in order to avoid the drop.

Not even a second-half appearance from Johanna Omolo could save Büyükşehir Belediye Erzurumspor from a 3-1 defeat to Göztepe in the Turkish Super League.

Omolo was introduced at the start of the second half to add some impetus as Erzurumspor began the closing half trailing 1-0 to Göztepe.

The result leaves Erzurumspor in a precarious position with their future in the top tier looking bleak as they sit 19th with 26 points from 28 games.

The Turkish club are winless in the last four games and look set to drop back to the second tier after earning promotion at the end of last season.

Leo Schwechlen had a nightmare start to the game as he turned the ball into his own net in the fourth minute as Erzurumspor went into the break trailing.

The triple substitution by manager Mesut Bakkal at half time that included Omolo worked its magic almost immediately as they equalised four minutes into the second half through Emrah Başsan who was part of the changes.

Erzurumspor looked set to pick up a point on the road but a late capitulation started in the 83rd minute when Halil Akbunar restored Göztepe’s lead.

Marouan da Costa was handed his marching orders in the seventh minute of stoppage time after committing a last-man foul with Alpaslan Öztürk stepping up to take the penalty and held his nerve to score.

Erzurumspor and Omolo will be hoping for a better outing when they next face Trabzonspor on Sunday 14 March.
