Omolo features for Kocaelispor in friendly loss

The former Cercle Brugge midfielder featured in a club friendly

Kenyan international Johanna Omolo started for Kocaelispor in the 4-3 defeat to Fatih Karagümrük in an international club friendly on Saturday.

This was a clash pitting a Super Lig side in the name of Fatih Karagümrük against a 1st Lig side as both sides aimed to sharpen their match fitness during the international break. 

Kocaelispor had a horrendous start to the game as they conceded a penalty in the third minute of the game with former Liverpool forward Fabio Borini expertly dispatching the penalty to hand Karagümrük the lead.

Borini was having a spectacular start to the game completed his brace seven minutes later with Tunay Torun putting Karagümrük a healthy 3-0 advantage in the 15th minute.

Kocaelispor however refused to go down without a fight as they pulled one goal back in the 35th minute through Mouhammed Diop.

Omolo’s side went into the break with a difference of one goal as Bahatin Köse reduced the deficit five minutes from the halftime break after a torrid start to the game. 

Kocaelispor continued from where they left from in the first half as they drew level in the 77th minute following a spirited comeback with Michael Pereira getting his name on the scoresheet. 

Karagümrük were however not to be denied victory as Yannis Salibur scored the match-winner five minutes from time to settle the seven-goal thriller.
