The defender makes the comeback following Michael Clive's injury that will see him sidelined for up to eight weeks

Ulinzi Stars defender Omar Mbongi has returned to the team barely a month after announcing his retirement from the club.

The left back returns to hold fort for Michael Clive Otieno who suffered a hand fracture while in training on Thursday and is set to miss for up to eight weeks according to an update by the club.

Razor, as Mbongi is fondly known by his teammates, announced his retirement from the club after the end of the first leg in the current campaign where he played in all 17 matches in that period.

Otieno had come on for the second leg after Mbongi left the team and managed to make four appearances, three in the FKFPL and one in the Mozzart Bet Cup.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Ulinzi's assistant coach Abdallah 'Dalo' Mohammed confirmed that the seasoned defender has already rejoined the team and was in training on Saturday as the team prepared for their clash against Nzoia Sugar on Tuesday at Sudi Stadium, Bungoma.

"Clive (Michael) suffered a fracture but we have moved swiftly to bring back Mbongi in that position and he has resumed training with the rest of the team. So as it is, there is no void left ," Dalo told Mozzart Sport.

With Mbongi back in the fold, Shannel Makwata will continue being the understudy in that position with hopes that he can break into the team in the near future.

The Soldiers travel to Sudi on a revenge mission having suffered a defeat at their own backyard in the first leg encounter of the clash in January.

After 20 matches, Ulinzi are seventh on the log with 32 points collected from eight wins and a similar number of draws.
