Gor forward says he is hungry to score goals again

Gor Mahia forward Benson Omala says he aims to smother his goal thirst by netting at least five goalls for the Emerging Stars should coach Stanley Okumbi include him in his final squad for the tournament that is set take place in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia next month.

Omala returned to the country a couple of days ago after controversially parting ways with Swedish side FC Linkoping whom he had earlier accused of extinguishing his goal scoring instincts by transforming him into a defender.

The burly striker said he joined the camp hungry to score goals again after operating in a unfamiliar territory during his short-lived Linkoping stint which was earlier set to run for six months.

The former Western Stima rookie revealed that he was keen to guide the team to regional victory as well as muscle for the 'Golden Boot' award.

"I have never been hungry to score goals like this time. I scored two goals during last year's CECAFA U20 finals and I hope I will make it five and win the boot in the U23 category. It feels good to be back to my preferred department," he said.

Omala will face fierce competition in the race to secure slots in the final team and starting roles from Tusker forward Henry Meja and Kariobangi Sharks man Sydney Lokale.

Additionally, red-hot Kisumu All Stars goal poacher Alfred Emoni and Bungoma Superstars hitman Ken Wanyonyi are also in contention courtesy of their performance with their respective clubs.

However, Omala believes that the competition from the rest of the other strikers will push him to go the extra mile and help him remain on his toes.

"The competition in the department is welcome. I have to work hard to guarantee myself a place in the team and score whenever given playing time," he stated.
