The forward has been on top of his game this season as he has bagged six goals in as many matches

Gor Mahia on-form striker Benson Omala has already bagged six goals in six games this season - including a brace in the Mashemeji derby.

Omala scored 25 goals last season as K'Ogalo won a record 20th Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) title.

He came second behind Elvis Rupia, who scored two more goals to win the golden boot award.

Yet, Omala only earned a single call up to the senior men's national team, the Harambee Stars after hue and cry from fans.

Still, he was subsequently jettisoned, and did not get the nod for Monday's friendly against Russia in Turkey.

Stars coach Engin Firat has maintained that the national is not for all, and Omala will have to prove himself to consistently make the cut.

Asked what he needs to do to be a common feature for Stars, the former Kisumu Day High School player offered that, "my job is to score goals and that is what I want to do," the prodigy told Sports Eye.

Mental strength, he says, is very important for him in coping with fan criticisms.

"Sometimes it's tough (being Omala), people will always talk about whether you do good or bad, so it's the mental toughness that will keep you going," he said.

Omala scored twice as Gor Mahia thumped Kahawa Barracks 8-0 in a friendly game on Saturday.

K'Ogalo is taking advantage of the international break to fine tune ahead of the next league game against Tusker FC on Sunday.

The coach Johnathan McKinstry's side has won three games and drawn a similar number, and are placed second on the log on 12 points - four off leaders Posta Rangers.

Tusker on the other hand has won twice, drawn twice and lost twice.
