He has scored nine of the 15 goals Duhail have in the competition
Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga opened up the gap in the race for the 2022 edition of the Qatar Stars League Cup Golden Boot to five goals following his brace over the weekend over Al Rayyan as Duhail won 3-0.
In the four matches that have been played so far in the competition, the former Gor Mahia forward has found the back of the net nine times, five more goals than the chasing pack.
Olunga bagged consecutive hat tricks in the first two matches in the competition as Duhail picked victories over Al Markhiya and Al Arabi respectively before salvaging a point for the team with a lone goal in the third match against Al Gharafa, and then scoring a brace in the recent win over Al Rayyan .
He is followed by the trio of Baghdad Bounedjah and Hassan Palang, both of defending league champions Al Sadd, and Sardor Rashidov of Umm Salal SC who have four goals apiece.
Ilyes Brimil, who plies his trade for Umm Salal SC also, closes the top five bracket with three goals to his name.
Duhail have one last match left in Group A this Saturday and they will be up against Al Shamal SC who are placed fifth of the six-team pool and Olunga will fancy more goals to better his chances of landing the personal gong at the end of the tournament.
Duhail top Group B with 10 points.
