The Kenyan forward leads the line in AFC Champions League team of the Group Stage.

Kenyan international Michael Olunga has been named in the Asian Football Federation (AFC) Champions League Team of the Group Stage after bagging nine goals.

Olunga will however not be able to add on to his tally as Al Duhail suffered elimination in the Group Stages after finishing second with nine points.

The Asian football governing body revealed that Olunga garnered 84 percent of the votes which were cast by fans across the globe following his impressive starts.

“Kenyan star striker Michael Olunga collected over 84 percent of the votes to be named the top choice to lead our forward line and there was little surprise after the Al Duhail attacker netted an incredible nine goals in the Group Stage,”

“Unfortunately, with his club side failing to progress to the Round of 16, Olunga won't have the chance to increase his tally,” read a statement from AFC.

The former Gor Mahia forward was making his debut in the competition after joining Al Duhail from Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol back in January.

Olunga is still the top scorer of the competition but will hope that none of his competitors to the Golden Boot will add onto their tally in the knockout stages of the competition.

According to stats Olunga had 15 shots on target in the Group Stages of the competition and had a 31 percent shot conversion rate.

The forward will be in action on Sunday 12 September as Al Duhail take on Al Khor in the Qatar Stars League opener.
