Michael Olunga will still hope to clinch the Golden Boot after scoring nine AFC Champions League goals.
Kenyan international Michael Olunga has had a spectacular debut season in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League after breaking a five-year goal scoring record.
The former Gor Mahia forward becomes the first player to score nine goals in the Champions League since 2016.
Olunga was one goal shy of equaling Andriano’s record of 10 goals in the Group Stages he scored for South Korean side Seoul back in 2016.
The Champions League released a statement to recognize Olunga’s feat this season as he bagged nine goals for Duhail in the Group Stages.
“Become attacked Al-Duhail Michael Olunga is the first player to score 9 goals in the group stage of Trophy Since the 2016 version!” read the statement.

The 27-year-old scored in every Champions League game this season including a hat-trick against Esteghlal and a brace in the reverse clash against the Iranian champions.
Despite scoring nine goals, Duhail failed to seal progression into the knockout phases of the Champions League following their 1-1 draw against Al Ahli Saudi.
Olunga has been back to his devastating best after an uninspiring start to life at Duhail following his move from Japanese outfit Kashiwa Reysol.
Despite being knocked out of the competition, Olunga will still hope to bag the Golden Boot as his next challenger who can still add to his tally is five goals behind him.
