Conflicting reports from France and Germany have sparked fresh uncertainty over Michael Olise's future, with Real Madrid once again linked to Bayern Munich's French star
Is Michael Olise planning to leave Bayern Munich after just one season? Or is the latest speculation simply the beginning of a high-profile transfer saga?
The future of the 24-year-old France international has become one of football's hottest talking points after leading journalists from France and Germany published completely opposing accounts of his situation, leaving fans wondering what is really happening behind the scenes.
Michael Olise wants to join Real Madrid. He no longer hides that in private and has told France teammates of his desire. Olise has had this desire to play for Real Madrid for a long time. The story first gathered momentum when Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato reported that Olise had requested a meeting with Bayern officials to inform them of his desire to join Real Madrid.
That claim was initially dismissed by German outlet Sky Sport, which insisted the winger had no intention of leaving Bavaria. Instead, the report claimed Olise had communicated through intermediaries that he wanted to remain at Bayern and was even open to discussing a contract extension.
But the story refused to disappear.
On Friday, three journalists from French newspaper L'Equipe largely backed Aouna's reporting, claiming Olise has privately made no secret of his desire to play for Real Madrid.
According to the report, the former Crystal Palace star even used the FIFA World Cup to seek advice from France teammates Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni about life in Madrid.
The report also claims Bayern defender Dayot Upamecano tried to convince his international teammate to stay in Munich, but that Olise has already decided he wants to join the Spanish giants this summer. L'Equipe adds that discussions surrounding a possible move have been developing for around a month rather than emerging suddenly this week.
Germany's answer came quickly.
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, with support from Christian Falk, dismissed the French reports, insisting Bayern remain completely relaxed about the situation.
🚨🆕 (1/2) FC Bayern remain relaxed despite the exclusive report from L’Équipe. Internally, the stance has been discussed again today and fully approved by all decision-makers, including Uli Hoeneß: Michael Olise is not for sale. According to Plettenberg, Bayern's hierarchy - including honorary president Uli Hoeness - are unanimous in their position: Olise is not for sale!
Instead of preparing for a departure, the Bundesliga champions are reportedly working on a contract extension that would make the French winger one of the club's three highest-paid players.
Plettenberg added that Bayern would not even consider opening negotiations if offers worth €200 million or even €250 million arrived.
However, the most interesting part of the German reports concerns Real Madrid's alleged role. Plettenberg claims Bayern fully trust the relationship between the two clubs and that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has personally assured Bayern chairman Herbert Hainer that Madrid have no intention of pursuing Olise this summer and have made no contact with either the player or his representatives.
He also insists neither Olise nor his agent has informed Bayern of any desire to leave. The French international remains under contract until 2029, with no release clause included in his deal.
Additional information emerged through Christian Falk's Bayern Insider podcast. According to Falk, Real Madrid did consider Olise at one stage but cooled their interest after resolving uncertainty surrounding Vinicius Junior's future.
Instead, the Spanish giants are now believed to prioritise signing a world-class centre-forward, with Erling Haaland fitting that profile more closely than another wide attacker.
Olise himself has said nothing publicly. Until one of the main protagonists breaks that silence, the truth remains hidden somewhere between Munich, Madrid and the competing claims of France and Germany.
One thing, however, seems increasingly clear - this story is far from over.
