Olise terrific again, Bayern score six goals against Freiburg

Reading Time: 4min | Sat. 22.11.25. | 19:46

Former Crystal Palace forwards scored a brace and assisted for three more goals

Soon after the season started, it was clear that Freiburg won‘t be repeating their excellent fifth place from last season. The ‘Brazilians of Breisgau‘ already had three defeats and four draws and were a 10th place team before they headed to Munich to face Bayern. So, when they scored two goals after only 17 minutes and stunned the packed Allianz Arena, only the scorers were happy. Coach Julian Schuster was as serious as if they were 2-0 down, not up. He just knew they couldn‘t cope up with the Bavarians for whole 90 minutes and he was right. Bayern needed less than 30 minutes to equalize, 38 to take the lead and by the end of the game, Freiburg got hammered 6-2. Goals from Olise (a brace), Kane, Upamecano, Jackson and the talented youngster Karl just showed that the Bavarians are unstoppable at the moment.

How much do I like Bayern’s play this season? I’ll put it this way: I wish the matches lasted three hours“. This is how Uli Hoeness praised his club’s performances a few days ago. Before him, Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri also commented on the German champions’ form — after journalists pointed out his team’s poor efficiency against Pisa… “You want to watch better football? Buy a season ticket for Bayern Munich. It’s that simple“. And truly, anyone who wants to watch the best football this season should watch Bayern. Freiburg is not a real benchmark, they can’t be compared to the best team in the Bundesliga in any way, but this isn’t just about results and goals. Kompany’s team impresses in every sense, and what the fans especially appreciate — they keep their foot on the gas for all 90 minutes. No calculations, no saving energy for bigger challenges, no lowering the intensity.

This Bayern somewhat resembles Heynckes’ team, except it seems to have even more room to improve. Michael Olise delivered another incredible performance, probably his best this season, confirming that he belongs to the absolute elite of world football. No one doubts that anymore. The French winger is likely among the five best players in the world right now. Today, Olise scored two and assisted three more goals?! He only didn’t take part in Harry Kane’s goal, when the ball accidentally deflected off Aleksandar Pavlović and fell to the English striker. Alongside Olise, 17-year-old Lennart Karl shone as well. The youngster reduced the score to 2–1 in the 22nd minute, and at the very end of the first half he also provided an assist. At moments the kid looks impressive — he plays with so much confidence, maturity, and without unnecessary moves. His physical shortcomings are noticeable, but Vincent Kompany is carefully choosing his matches and managing his playing time, which is clearly contributing to his development.

If he continues like this, there’s no doubt — he’ll be a phenomenon. And certainly the best product of Bayern’s academy in the last ten years, if we don’t count Jamal Musiala. Considering that Serge Gnabry is injured, it will mean a lot to Bayern that Nicolas Jackson has scored again and looked better than in some of his previous appearances. He’s quicker now, moves better, and is starting to understand the movement of his teammates around him. It’s not impossible that he’ll get minutes at the Emirates. Now, there is also something that should worry Kompany. It’s the way Bayern conceded those two goals in the 12th and 17th minute — from corner kicks. And it’s well known where Arsenal are strongest. Unless this was some sort of trick aimed at Mikel Arteta, or a test of set-piece defending, this is a segment the Belgian will have to work on in the coming days.
