Old Lady's agony continues - late penalty spares Juve blushes
Reading Time: 3min | Sun. 15.12.24. | 11:53
Bianconeri drew 2-2 against the last-placed Venezia at home, equalizing from a 95th-minute penalty for their fourth consecutive Serie A draw
Venezia were on the verge of causing a sensation at Allianz Stadium in Turin! The last-placed Serie A crew was 2-1 up until the 95th minute when Dusan Vlahovic sent home a levelling penalty and spared Juventus blushes. Eusebio Di Francesco's men were unfortunate once more, given that their added-time equalizer against Inter Milan five rounds ago was disallowed.

Regardless, the minnows can be proud of themselves for making a terrific and shocking comeback, which nobody expected, especially after Federico Gatti netted an opener for the home team in the 19th minute after a corner and Khephren Thuram's assist. The visitors threatened over Magnus Kofod Andersen, who hit the post, and Gianluca Busio, but the Bianconeri still awaited the break with a goal up.

After the break, another corner brought Juve the second goal, but Kenan Yildiz's handball caused the VAR reaction, and the goal was disallowed. The visitors' brave display paid off in the 61st minute when Mikael Egill Ellertsson found the net with a header, exploiting Francesco Zampano's superb cross - 1-1.
Even though Thiago Motta tried to wake his team up with several changes, Venezia made a complete comeback three minutes before the end after Jay Idzes sent a header home, with the slight help of Gatti, off whom the ball deflected.
Yet, in the 95th minute, the ball touched Antonio Candella's hand after a melee in the box, and the ref Antonio Giua pointed to the spot. Vlahovic converted the penalty and saved Juve from embarrassment, but Bianconeri can hardly be satisfied after their fourth consecutive draw, which put them as many as nine points behind the leaders Atalanta.
3/9 - Juventus have won three out of nine home games in this championship; only twice have the Bianconeri achieved three or fewer wins in their first nine home games in #SerieA (two in 1956/57 and 1988/89). Uncomfortable.#JuventusVenezia

Venezia can neither be happy given that they were extremely close to snatching three points, but have to be proud of their display, especially considering that this was only their second point away from home in Serie A this season. The result that undoubtedly gives them hope of survival in the top flight.
