Okumu was part of the historic 6-1 thumping of Belgian champions Club Brugge.

Kenyan international Joseph Okumu clocked 90 minutes for KAA Gent in the 6-1 thumping of reigning Jupiler Pro League champions Club Brugge as fellow compatriots Ismael Dunga and Daniel Anyembe failed to feature for Sagan Tosu and Viborg respectively.

Joseph Okumu

The former Chemelil Sugar defender will link up with the Harambee Stars squad brimming with confidence after the 6-1 thumping of Belgian champions Club Brugge.

This was the last clash for Okumu as teams are set to release players called up to their national teams for the international break that commences on Tuesday 31 August.

After sealing qualification to the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League, Gent had a blistering start to the game as they opened the scoring in the ninth minute through Tarik Tissoudali.

Brugge’s wretched start to the game continued as they soaked in the second of the game six minutes later through Julien De Sart who made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Gent went into the halftime break in the driving seat as Nurio Fortuna made it 3-0 in the 38th minute as Brugge’s misery was given a pause.

Roman Bezus put the game beyond Brugge in the 61st minute as Hans Vanaken pulled one back for Brugge four minutes later but it turned out to be a mere consolation.

Former Huddersfield Town midfielder Laurent Depoitre continued with the rout as he notched in the fifth in the 65th minute to complete bonkers five minutes that witnessed three goals.

Former Liverpool custodian Simon Mignolet’s nightmare game was compounded in the 79th minute when he turned the ball into his own net as Gent picked up their first back to back win of the season.

Daniel Anyembe

Elsewhere in Denmark Kenyan right-back Daniel Anyembe was an unused substitute as his Viborg drew 2-2 with SønderjyskE.

Emil Kornvig and Daniel Prosser scored in either half for SønderjyskE as Jeppe Gronning and Sebastian Gronning Andersen were on the scoresheet for Viborg.

Ismael Dunga

Former Tusker FC forward Ismael Dunga missed the matchday squad as his Sagan Tosu side edged Vegalta Sendai 1-0 in the Japanese J1 League.

Brazilian defender Eduardo scored the lone goal six minutes after the hour mark as Tosu inched closer towards the AFC Champions League places.
