Vihiga Queens represented Kenya in the inaugural CAF Women's Champions League.

Despite failing to make the knockout phases of the CAF Women’s Champions League, Vihiga Queens head coach Charles Okere revelled about the experience gathered by the ladies.

The Vihiga-based outfit suffered an exit in the Group Stages of the tournament after a humbling loss at the hands of Rivers Angels from Nigeria in the final pool game.

Okere who doubles up as the Harambee Starlets head coach noted that although the team exited the inaugural competition at the group stage, the players will never be the same again after playing at the level.

“This has been a good platform for the players to learn and improve when playing with the best in the continent,” said Okere.

Queens started the tournament with a 1-0 loss to South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession in the game.

They picked up their maiden win in the tournament in the second clash as they went past Moroccan outfit ASFAR Rabat following a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Violet Wanyonyi and Jentrix Shikangwa.

With hopes high in the final game against Rivers Angels who were without a win in their opening two games, Queens suffered a shock 4-0 drubbing as they exited the competition.

The 2019 Women Premier League champions will now focus their attention on the league as they look to capture the title from Thika Queens.
