The Dutch midfielder has finally made up his mind and signed for PSG on a free transfer

It is finally over! Barca were already labeled as his next home however it ended differently. Georginio Wijnaldum is the newest signing of Paris Saint-Germain - first transfer made by the club since they missed out on the Ligue 1 title last month to Lille.

After the French club hijacked his proposed move to Barcelona, the Dutch midfielder of Surinamese descent has signed a contract twith the team from the French capital.

The 30-year-old midfielder’s free transfer will officially take effect once his Liverpool deal expires at the end of this month.

After Gini received a call from the PSG manager, Mauricio Pochettino, and with the club offering twice the wage, Wijnaldum made his decision and a three-year contract has been agreed.

Barcelona had thought Wijnaldum was joining them and had a medical planned but the Netherlands international changed his mind.

PSG persuaded the former Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven and Newcastle United player to move to the Parc des Princes.

"Signing for Paris Saint-Germain is a new challenge for me," Wijnaldum, who is currently with the Netherlands squad preparing for Euro 2020, said in a statement published on PSG's website.

"I'm joining one of the best squads in Europe and I want to bring all my desire and commitment to this ambitious project."

Wijnaldum won the Champions League in 2019 as well as the Premier League title last year with spending the last five seasons at Anfield.

PSG do not intend to stop here - they would also like to sign Moise Kean on a permanent deal from Everton, Gigi Donnarumma from AC MIlan and Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan.

Barcelona, who were left 'hanging' in the whole story, are continuing their search for great players for small amounts.

So far, Barca have signed Sergio Agüero, Eric García and Emerson Royal over recent days.

Their experience with Wijnaldum has prompted them to offer Memphis Depay, another free agent and member of the Netherlands’ Euro 2020 squad, an improved contract to 2024 in the hope that they do not miss out.
