Club legend could not cope with the second-season-syndrome

Chelsea has today parted company with Frank Lampard. Only ninth place in the Premier League as a result of only one victory - a bland one over Fulham - in the last five rounds. Early elimination from Tottenham from the League Cup. In the Champions League, the group phase was passed relatively easy, just like the first two rounds of the FA Cup against the lower-tier opponents. And it's not just about the results below expectations, but about the football that doesn't promise, so Chelsea decided to replace Frank Lampard.

According to the British Telegraph journalist Matt Lowe, the day after the victory over Luton in the fourth round of the FA Cup, the Blues decided to make a change on their bench, due to a series of bad results in the Premier League. The players were informed that they are not coming to training today, so today came the confirmation that the agreement between the Stamford Bridge club and their legendary captain has been terminated.

Last summer, the Blues spent over 300 million USD (over 33 billion KSH) on reinforcements, German national team players Timo Werner and Kai Haverz, then English national team player Ben Chilwell, former Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, as well as Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and talented Malang Sarr. Ambitions were high, Chelsea even opened the season well and pointed out the candidacy for the title, but everything soon fell apart. After a series of 14 games without defeat, there was a steep decline so Lampard's team has only four triumphs in the last ten games (two in the FA Cup), a draw with Aston Villa and five defeats in the league. Out of 84 games he managed the Blues - 44 were wins, 23 were losses and 17 draws. No one can fight the feeling that if you swap the numbers for losses and draws - Lampard would probably have more time to try to turn things around.

According to the official Chelsea FC website statement, Roman Abramovich said,

“This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him’.“He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers."

It has been speculated that Thomas Tuchel could succeed him, especially from the moment he lost his job at Paris Saint Germain, where he was succeeded by Mauricio Pochettino. The former coach of Dortmund and PSG is without an engagement, which is why many are sticking with the guess that he will take over the Blues managerial position.
