Kenyan international Clarke Oduor was an unused substitute as his already-relegated Barnsley suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Blackpool in the English Championship.

The Tykes suffered the dreaded drop last Friday following their 2-1 loss to promotion-chasing Huddersfield Town which saw them join Wayne Rooney’s Derby County in the English third tier next season.

This was Martin Devaney’s first game in charge of Barnsley after being installed as the interim coach following the dismissal of Poya Asbaghi following their relegation.

After coming close on a number of occasions by hitting the crossbar, Barnsley were unlucky to concede six minutes to the halftime break through Owen Dale who scored his second goal of the season.

The start of the second half was a tame affair and after missing their chance through Cauley Woodrow, Blackpool again punished them for their profligacy with Oliver Casey scoring his first goal for the club.

The result means that Barnsley have suffered their 26th defeat of the season with the wretched run of form seeing them anchored to the bottom of the standings while Blackpool pick up their fifth away victory of the season.

Oduor’s season has been blighted by injuries that has reduced his appearances to 19 in all competitions after showing promise at the start of the campaign.
