The experienced goalleepers trainer has been clubless after leaving Bandari
Former Kenya international Wilson Obungu has joined Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Sofapaka FC.
Obungu rejoins Sofapaka after a decade, having left Sofapaka in 2011, but returns in a new capacity as the goalkeepers coach.
Obungu joined Batoto Ba Mungu in 2009 from Bandari FC, playing a critical role in guiding Sofapaka to win their first FKF-PL title in their maiden top flight season.
He would later leave Sofapaka in 2011 and join Sony Sugar FC for one season before making a return to Bandari, where he served the Mombasa-based side until his retirement from active football in 2018.
The ex-Sony Sugar custodian left Bandari at the start of the current season after a ten-year stint with the Dockers following managerial changes.
He replaces former club player and coach David Okello, who left the club after a series of poor results in the goalkeeping department.
The 2009 champions are having one of their worst starts of the season, which has seen them record just a single clean sheet to their name and equally one of the leaking defences after conceding 20 goals so far.
The former Tusker shot stopper will be tasked with arresting Sofapaka's porous goal-keeping department.
Speaking exclusively to Mozzart Sport, the experienced goalkeeper trainer said; "It's true; I have joined Sofapaka FC as the new goalkeeper coach. I have been here for the past one week after the FIFA break, and I am really delighted to be back at the club."
Obungu rejoins on a one-year contract with the option of renewal upon expiration.
In his first assignment as the new keepers trainer, Sofapaka played out a one-all draw against the AFC Leopards on Saturday.
