Defender exudes confidence in team defying odds once more.

Nzoia Sugar FC put a spirited fight towards the end of last season, barely surviving relegation with some huge results under coach Salim Babu. The team now knows better and if their new signings are anything to go by, the sugar millers intend to begin the 2022/23 premier league season on a high.

Defender Vincent Mahiga played all the matches last season for Nzoia, amassing full minutes in all but one contest against Posta Rangers. The left-back has full confidence in the way his team has recruited.

‘’We may have lost a few key players in the transfer window but the new additions are equally good. We have gelled well and our pre-season matches have turned out good results,’’ he says.

Having lost they top marksman Levis Okello to Kakamega Homeboyz, Coach Babu has quickly snapped up Div 1 top scorer Yasin Sije from Mayenje Santos. Steven Otieno from Kariobangi Sharks has also penned a two year contract with the side. Other new faces at Sudi include Harun Thomas, Aineah Ndete and Prince Ayieko.

Mahiga however, has reservations with how long the pre-season has been.

‘’The pre-season is taking too long and players are getting tired. It would be better if football stakeholders sat down and ironed out the issues so that we can go back to work,’’ continues the former Kakamega Homeboyz man.

The defender joined Nzoia at the close of the 2019 season and had to struggle to earn playing time, something he admits didn’t come easy.

‘’It’s always hard fitting in when you change clubs but I worked hard and earned my place. That explains why I managed to play all the matches last season,’’ he adds.

The sugar millers finished 13th on the log last season with 35 points.
