Sugar millers complete their second signing in the ongoing transfer window, eye an experienced goalkeeper
Hardly four days after raiding Bungoma Superstars for the services of Hillary Simiyu, Nzoia Sugar have once again stormed back to the Division One club and made away with Kevin Wafula.
Nzoia completed the signing of Simiyu who is touted as Erick Otieno's replacement on Friday last week and handed his debut during their 2-1 win over KCB the following day at the Sudi Stadium. Nzoia lost Otieno to Wazito at the start of the month
The club's head coach Ibrahim Shikanda confirmed the arrival of Wafula, an attacking midfielder from Bungoma today and further revealed his intention to wrap his shopping in the transfer window by signing a goalkeeper.
Shikanda who took over reigns at the club in January said the exit of Mustafa Oduor to Vihiga United left a massive gap in the goalkeeping department.
Oduor returned to Nzoia at the start of the season from Bandari but has seen limited game time as the technical bench has been preferring former national U20, Rising Stars shot-stopper Humprey Katasi to man the goal in league assignments. His departure to Vihiga leaves Shikanda with two glove-men; Katasi and Benson Mangala
"We have signed Wafula from Superstars and we expect him to join the rest in preparing for our next league match against Tusker on Tuesday. The two players from Bungoma are technically good and will add more punch in our striking department. We are hoping to finish business in the transfer window by bringing in a goalkeeper to fill the void left by Oduor," said the former Bandari assistant coach
Nzoia who are brimming in confidence ahead of their Tusker duel following their win over KCB will in the meantime do without the services of Cliff Kasuti in the long run after the winger picked an injury in training last week. The former Ulinzi Stars man had resumed training after attending to family issues which had seen him abscond duty for two weeks only to sustain an injury in the penultimate session to the KCB match.
"Family issues had kept him away for two weeks and was unfortunate to hurt himself in training last week. He will be out for some time," added Shikanda
Nzoia are currently placed 12th with 14 points.
