Nyakwaka hoping to make top-flight bow this weekend against Homeboyz

Red-hot striker Philemon Nyakwaka is hoping to make his KCB and Football Kenya Federation Premier League debut this weekend against Kakamega Homeboyz after sealing a move to the bankers.

Nyakwaka was officially unveiled as a KCB player on Thursday, marking his upgrade from the National Super League to the top tier.

The forward joined KCB on a two-year-long deal from second-tier side Mara Sugar following his impressive form with the promotion-hunting sugarmen.

KCB went for Nyakwaka's signature after he managed to find the back of the net 16 times in as many matches in the ongoing second-tier season.

The deep-pocketing bankers beat Shabana, Murang'a Seal, and Posta Rangers, among other sides, to his services.

Nyakwaka would have made his top-flight bow last weekend against 2009 league champions Sofapaka at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos but couldn't as his transfer had not been sanctioned.

However, he is looking forward to leaving a mark this weekend against the Homeboyz, should coach Bernard Mwalala give him the opportunity.

"I am longing for my league debut this weekend. I have been training for a while, with the rest of the team awaiting my clearance. With the green light to feature, I can't wait for the moment," he said.

The completion of the deal comes at a time when the bankers are struggling with form and their inability to bury their scoring chances, as the team had scored once in five league matches.

The club was dealt a blow in the mid-season transfer window after losing their best striker, Francis Kahiro, who joined Bandari.

Kahiro joined the Dockers as a free agent after failing to agree on a contract extension with KCB.

Before his departure, Kahiro had scored six league goals and has already taken his tally to seven in the season after opening his goal account at Bandari last weekend in their 3-2 win over Murang'a Seal.
