Number 22 is there to stay. "I'm excited for what will come next"

Ethan Nwaneri has signed a new five-year contract at Arsenal, which could keep him at Emirates until 2030.

Nwaneri's previous contract was due to expire in 2026, with the 18-year-old having signed his first professional contract with the club in March 2024.

"I'm very excited. I see this as my first real season, and part of a proper squad in the changing room. I'm so excited for what I can bring to the team and how I can help the team," Nwaneri said.

"I'm a very versatile player, so I think I'm going to play anywhere across the front five, and I'm ready to do what the manager needs.

"I think I've actually become more direct over the past few years and I've added more goals, so I'm excited for what will come next."

Nwaneri rose through the youth ranks of the Gunners, and made his first-team debut in September 2022, making him the youngest player to ever appear in the Premier League at the age of 15 years and 181 days.

He scored nine goals in 37 matches in the previous season. This campaign saw him rewarded with a call-up to the England Under-21s squad for the Euros. He played six games, including a substitute appearance in the showdown as England defended the title.

Asked for his personal standout moment from his breakout season, Nwaneri said:

"The goal against Man City. I knew I'd do something if I got the ball. Then Declan (Rice) luckily saw me. You don't really think, you just do it. You think about it afterwards."
