The early kickoff match will be between Mara Sugar and Mombasa Elite at Awendo Green Stadium
National Super League action enters round nine on Saturday with five thrilling matches on the cards set to effect shifts at both ends of the second-tier table.
The highlight of the day will be at Utalii Grounds in Nairobi where promotion-chasing and league leaders Mathare United entertain eighteenth-placed Mully Children Family (MCF FC) in what promises to be a rollercoaster of a match.
The former Kenya Premier League champions Mathare head into the match on the back of three consecutive wins and will be keen to dispatch the inconsistent MCF and register a fourth win in a row since demotion to the second division.
On the other hand, the Robert Arasa Orangi-coached side approaches the match high on morale after shaking off their poor start to the season with Migori Youth win last weekend and will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to five games and register a second win of the campaign as they foster away out of the relegation brackets.
Speaking ahead of the game, Orangi noted that his charges had learned from previous mistakes and would be approaching the match with guns blazing to dispatch the Leonard Odipo instructed Mathare.
“Last weekend's win raised our energies and everyone is buzzing for another win. We may be the underdogs against Mathare but I can assure our supporters that we are going for a win and the journey to the top has just started,” stated the former Kangemi All Stars coach.
Mara Sugar vs Mombasa Elite
At Awendo Green Stadium third-placed Mara Sugar will be up against tenth-ranked Mombasa Elite in what is the first game for Vincent Nyaberi since his confirmation as the Millers' head coach early this week and face a stern test to end his side run of three matches without a win.
The duo head to the match with a similar record that has seen them fail to record wins in the last three league matches, however, Elite have struggled in front of goal firing blanks in three games in a row while Mara have been porous at the back-shipping goals in each of the previous three NSL encounters.
A win for the promotion hopefuls Mara will lift them to the summit of the league suppose Mathare United and Kisumu All Stars drop points.
Kisumu All Stars vs Dimba Patriots
Sixteenth-placed Dimba Patriots travel to Kisumu for a classic encounter against Kisumu All-Stars in a league action slated for Moi Stadium.
Under the tutelage of Idd Shikanda, Dimba have had a rough welcome to the NSL failing to nick wins in their last seven games a performance that leaves them with one win in the opening eight rounds while All Stars heads to match on the back of a perfect home run that has the Charles Bruno coached Otenga collect 10 points at their backyard from a possible 12 and victory over Patriots will increase their chances of staging a comeback to the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.
In other National Super League matches set for Saturday, Nairobi United entertain Vihiga Bullets at Kasarani Annex with the Naiboi’s keen to extend their unbeaten start to the season, while Darajani Gogo host Kajiado FC at the Wolves Den in Kajiado.
