Victory on Saturday could see them climb back to third place on 56 points, provided results elsewhere swing in their favour.
With nine matches left to define their season, the Kisumu-based side understands the urgency of the moment.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, head coach Charles Bruno acknowledged the mounting pressure, but expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to rise to the occasion.
“Of course there is mounting pressure to elevate our performance and fight for a place in the top flight next season. It is a concern, but I have urged the players, especially the younger ones, not to succumb to it. That responsibility rests with me,” he noted.
“We also have a capable pool of experienced players whom I trust to guide us through the remaining fixtures.”
The former Kisumu All Stars tactician further emphasized the gravity of the run-in phase, describing each remaining fixture as a final.
“This is a decisive period in the league. Every match from now on is a final for us, and we cannot afford to drop more points. Mwatate United will pose a stern test, particularly given their position and motivation,” he added.
MOFA head into the tie on the back of dropped points against fellow promotion contenders Equity FC, a result that underlined the fine margins in the promotion race.
Their opponents, however, arrive rejuvenated. Mwatate United, under new head coach James Tole, have shown renewed belief following a commanding 3-1 victory over Vihiga United, a result that injected fresh hope into their survival campaign in the post-Evans Mafuta era.
Currently third from bottom on 24 points, the coastal outfit faces a steep climb. Another win would lift them to 27 points, a crucial step in their bid to escape the drop zone.
While safety may still be distant, momentum at this stage could prove invaluable.
With MOFA chasing promotion and Mwatate fighting for survival, the clash embodies the contrasting ambitions that define this stage of the season—setting the stage for a thrilling encounter.
Elsewhere, at Gems Cambridge, promotion contenders Kibera Black Stars and Fortune Sacco will lock horns in what promises to be a defining contest in the race for top-flight football.
Separated by a single point, with Kibera on 48 and Fortune on 49,both sides are on the cusp of breaking into the 50-point mark—a threshold that could significantly boost their promotion credentials.
Kibera arrive in buoyant mood, having secured back-to-back victories, including a morale-boosting triumph over Luanda Villa.
A third consecutive win for coach Iddi Badi’s charges would see them rise to 51 points, and close the gap on third-placed Equity FC to just three, firmly inserting themselves into the promotion conversation.
Fortune Sacco, however, present a formidable challenge.
Under the stewardship of Vincent Nyaberi, the Kirinyaga-based side has enjoyed an impressive unbeaten run of seven matches.
Their recent 2-1 victory over Kisumu All Stars further solidified their credentials as serious contenders.
With a game in hand, Fortune’s prospects appear even brighter.
Maximum points on Saturday would take them to 52, and victory in their outstanding fixture could propel them into third place on 55 points, depending on other results.
Given the stakes, this encounter could significantly shape the trajectory of the promotion race.
Attention will also turn to Marist Grounds, where a high-stakes relegation battle awaits as Darajani Gogo face off against Mully Children Family in a classic six-pointer.
Gogo, reeling from a setback against Nzoia Sugar FC in Bungoma, are desperate to return to winning ways.

Sitting on 27 points, just above the relegation zone, they cannot afford further slip-ups. A win would open up a crucial gap and steady their survival push.
Head coach Ken Kenyatta will demand a response from his players as they seek to navigate the precarious final stretch of the season.
Mully Children Family, on the other hand, have shown signs of resilience, losing just once in their last five matches.
Under Francis Chege, they have combined grit with determination, collecting valuable points through two wins and draws.
Victory for the Machakos-based side would lift them to 25 points, narrowing the gap to safety and setting up a tense finale to the campaign. They will also be motivated by a desire to avenge their 1-0 defeat to Gogo in the first leg.
With both sides fighting for survival, this clash carries immense weight and promises intensity throughout.
Rounding off the day’s action, former top-flight side FC Talanta will host Naivas FC in a mid-table encounter that could yet spark a late push for promotion.
Both teams are level on 41 points, occupying ninth and tenth positions respectively, and remain within touching distance of the playoff spots.
For Talanta, who have steadied themselves with a two-match unbeaten run after a difficult spell, this fixture presents an opportunity to reignite their ambition of an immediate return to the top tier.
Naivas, meanwhile, will be equally motivated. Having narrowly missed out on promotion in recent seasons, they are no strangers to the demands of a sustained push.
A win on Saturday could serve as the catalyst for another late surge towards their long-standing top-flight dream.
