It is shaping up to be a tense weekend for Migori Youth supporters, who will be keenly following results ahead of their crucial clash against Nzoia Sugar scheduled for Monday.

With the league leaders not in action this weekend, three sides, 3K FC, Fortune Sacco, and Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA), all head into their Sunday fixtures knowing victory could cut Migori Youth’s lead at the summit to just one point.

Before Migori Youth return to action, their fans will temporarily become supporters of several opposing teams as the chasing pack looks to apply pressure.

The highlight of the weekend will be at Thika Stadium, where the Mt. Kenya Derby takes center stage.

Kabati Youth vs 3K FC

Seventeenth-placed league newcomers Kabati Youth will host third-placed 3K FC at Thika Stadium in what has been dubbed the Mt. Kenya Derby, owing to both teams’ roots in Central Kenya.

The encounter carries significant weight for both sides. Kabati, under the guidance of coach Hajji Bilal, are desperate to end the year outside the relegation zone, while 3K FC are eager to keep pace with the leaders.

Since earning promotion to the NSL, Kabati Youth have spent their entire lifespan in the league battling relegation, frequently trading bottom positions with the second-to-last team.

However, they head into this fixture with a real possibility of ending the year in a safer zone.

The Bees have reason to be optimistic. They have dropped maximum points only once in their last five matches and come into the game boosted by a midweek 2-1 win over Soy United.

Goals from Tyson Sifuna and Fidel Angawa lifted the home crowd, following a run that has also seen them hold Nzoia Sugar to a goalless draw in Sudi, beat Kisumu All Stars 2-0 at Thika, lose narrowly to FC Talanta, and edge Kibera Black Stars 1-0 in what proved to be a season-reviving victory.

Kabati will also draw confidence from their impressive home form.

They are unbeaten in their last five matches at Thika Stadium and have dropped maximum points at the venue only once this season, against Nairobi City Stars. Their last three home outings have all ended in victory.

On the other side, coach Francis Chege brings a 3K FC side eager to bounce back after a shock midweek defeat away to Mully Children Family (MCF) in Ndalani.

Chege and his players are fully aware that a win would move them within a point of leaders Migori and further fuel their promotion ambitions.

However, away form remains a concern for the Embu-based outfit. They have managed just one win on the road, a 2-0 victory over Luanda Villa, and have lost their last three away matches against MCF, Equity Bank, and Soy United.

Their travels have also produced draws against Migori Youth and FC Talanta, alongside defeats to Nzoia Sugar.

Chege has called on his attackers to be ruthless if they are to leave Thika with something to show. “We need to be clinical and take our chances. If we do that, things will pick up,” he said.

Luanda Villa vs Kisumu All Stars

At Mumboha Grounds, Luanda Villa will close the year with a derby clash against neighbors Kisumu All Stars in a match that both sides must win.

Luanda, currently 12th on the log, has shaken off a slow start to the campaign and is keen to extend its unbeaten run to six matches.

Under the stewardship of Leonard Swaleh, Villa have beaten Darajani Gogo, Mwatate United, and Naivas as part of their revival and will be eager to end the year on a high against a struggling Kisumu side.

Kisumu All Stars sit 18th with 13 points and are under new coach Duncan Otieno.

The Otenga boys are beginning to find their footing, having picked up four points from their last two matches, a draw against MOFA and a home win over Naivas.

A win in Mumboha could see Kisumu end the year outside the relegation zone, depending on results elsewhere.

Other fixtures

In the rest of the weekend action, Mully Children Family will host Darajani Gogo at the MCF Sports Complex in Ndalani, Equity Bank will welcome Vihiga United in Kajiado, Kibera Black Stars will face Fortune Sacco at Kianyanga Stadium, Nairobi City Stars will host Soy United at Gems Cambridge, and Mwatate United will round off the year with a home clash against MOFA at Wundanyi Stadium.
