NSL: Five matches lined on Sunday

Reading Time: 3min | Sun. 22.10.23. | 09:08

The early kickoff match will be between Silibwet Leons and Dimba Patriots at Silibwet Green Stadium

Five National Super League (NSL) matches will be played on Sunday, October 22, afternoon, in different venues across the country as the sixth round of the second tier enters the home stretch.

The bottom-placed Silibwet Leons will battle the Dimba Patriots at the Silibwet Green Stadium with eyes fixed on their initial win of the season.

Under the tutelage of Mark Otieno Asa, the Leons have had a rough start to the season, with their performance hitting bottom low. They have yet to win any game five rounds into the season.

“The performances have been shocking, but we expected this from the start. But after a week-long training and the draw away to Nairobi United, the boys are motivated and ready to 'start' the season with Dimba,” said the former Mwatate United gaffer.

Silibwet have struggled defensively early in the campaign and have the worst goal ratio in the league, shipping-in 14 goals in five games. They will need to be at their best to deal with the marauding Dimba attack line.

Meanwhile, the Patriots will be seeking to bounce back from their barren draw against Luanda Villa last weekend, which left the Idd Shikanda-coached side with one win in the opening five games.

Vapour Grounds in Ngong will play host to a tie pitting Kibera Black Stars against Rainbow FC, with both sides boasting almost a similar record in the league.

Kibera, under a new management, will be seeking to capitalize on home advantage to end their run of three games without a win, while Rainbow, who will be without the services of Manzur Okwaro and Linus Munyau and are on trails with Nantes B of France, are determined to register their second victory of the term, bringing an end to their run of four matches without maximum points.

A win for either side will carry them three points away from the red zone as pressure escalates from the fans for a quicker turn-around of the poor start.

Mombasa Stars travel to Mumias where they are set to take on the sixteenth-placed Vihiga Bullets at the Mumias Sports Complex.

Vihiga have one win from the opening five matches and will fancy getting a win over the Stars, who are beaming with confidence following their 3-1 win over Mathare United last week.

A win for the George Owoko Bullets would see them lift off from 16th on the log to 12th, while a victory for Stars could steer them up to third depending on the results from other matches.

In other matches set for Sunday, Mully Children Family FC are seeking their maiden win of the campaign as they come up against the on-form Kisumu All Stars at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. Mulembe United will be away to 12th-placed Assad at the Ukunda Showground in the final match of the day.
