Matteo Guendouzi signs a permanent deal with Olympique Marseille after spending the last seven months at Velodrome

It was entertaining while it lasted.

Arsenal have been a hotbed of formidable football for decades, with all the ups and downs on the way. Anyhow, the Gunners were interesting for some non-football matters in the recent past, too. Back in 2019, the social networks were flooded with the images of the veteran defender David Luiz and a promising midfielder Matteo Guendouzi for their unorthodox and similar hairstyle resembling famous Sideshow Bob from a popular TV show 'Simpsons'.

Like identical twins on the pitch, it was a bit funny and challenging to comprehend who was who, but with Guendouzi's lone and David Luiz's exit from the club in July 2021, there was no dilemma anymore.

And just like the Brazilian centre-back, who continued his career in a homeland, the 22-year-old Frenchman had been loaned to his native land.

After more than a successful seven months spent on loan at Olympique Marseille, Guendouzi decided to sign a permanent, three-year deal with the club. He impressed with his combativeness in the Marseille midfield so far this campaign, in which he has made 38 appearances in all competitions so far. That number of games activated the buy-out option from Arsenal, and both Guendouzi and OM were thrilled to proceed with it.

No more Sideshow Bobs at the Emirates, that's for sure.
