Championship race in Germany is pretty much over

A Bundesliga title "six-pointer" ended in a hard-fought victory for the current champions of Germany and Europe - Bayern Munich. RB Leipzig did not use the fact Bayern were without their best player Robert Lewandowski and the Bavarian guests head home with all three points and a 7-point cushion above the Leipzig side - final score 0-1.

Before this match, Leipzig had a 10-game unbeaten streak in Bundesliga - however, Bayern seem to be from a different planet. Munich team's star striker being injured is a major blow but that did not slow down Hansi Flick's machinery.

As expected, Bayern controlled the possession and had more chances in the first half. After numerous opportunities, in the 38th minute, the Muller / Goretzka duo produced the goal for the lead. Superb work from Thomas Muller, who played a vital role in the build-up. He squared it to Leon Goretzka who beat Peter Gulacsi with a brilliant shot into the top right corner.

By the end of the first half, it could have been 0-3. First, Leroy Sane blew a promising chance when he got to a rebound just outside the penalty area. He struck it towards the bottom right corner, but Gulacsi pulled off a nice save to stop the attempt.

Then, Cameroonian Maxim Choupo-Moting won himself just enough space to connect with the corner inside the box. His header flew towards the bottom left corner, but the goalkeeper dived superbly to stop Choupo-Moting's attempt.

Julian Nagelsmann had to wake up his players in the locker room, and so he did. RB Leipzig came out pumped to start the second period.

In the 50th minute, Marcel Sabitzer peeled away from his marker to receive a lofted pass but sent his rocket of a shot just wide of the left post from inside the box.

Three minutes later, Dani Olmo got into a great position in the box after a pass, but sent his shot just wide of the left sidebar.

Marcel Sabitzer tried again in the 59th minute as he collected an accurate pass on the edge of the box and unleashed a strong shot towards the roof of the net, but his effort is denied by the well-positioned Manuel Neuer with a stunning save.

Bayern came back from the shock and threatened Gulacsi twice in 2 minutes. In the 75th, talented youngster Jamal Musiala neatly controlled a driven pass on the edge of the box, glanced up and cracked a beautiful drive goalwards that sailed just over the bar.

Two minutes later, Thomas Muller got to the rebound on the edge of the box and smashed the ball towards the bottom left corner, but Gulacsi was alert and made a great save to deny Muller.

Nagelsmann tried with a couple of substitutes until the final whistle but those did not change much on the pitch. Bayern were victorious and these three points made the distance even bigger for the teams trying to dethrone them.
