Ankle problem rules out veteran striker

Olivier Giroud will leave the French national team and return to AC Milan after his ankle injury suffered against Ireland on Thursday. The follow-up examinations revealed nothing serious, but as a precaution, the veteran goalscorer will miss the friendly against Germany on Tuesday night.

The all-time Les Bleus top scorer (54 goals) did not reveal any serious issues with his ankle injury sustained on Thursday. As a precaution, the former Arsenal and Chelsea player will leave the national team camp and rejoin his club to facilitate his complete recovery.

With the Milan derby in Serie A just a week away and AC Milan's first Champions League match against Newcastle United a little over ten days away, Giroud and France coach Didier Deschamps decided it was best not to take any risks to ensure he's fit for these two crucial fixtures.

The French national team staff is not expected to call up a replacement for Giroud before the Germany test.
