Neymar is staying in Santos

The glass is both half-empty and half-full for Santos fans. The first part of the news reads: Neymar has extended his contract and is staying at the club. The second part: he's staying only until January. Santos officially informed the public today that it has reached an agreement with Neymar to continue their cooperation, but it's limited to just six months—until the last day of December. After that, new negotiations will take place. It was expected, however, that Neymar would sign a contract for at least a year so he could stay at Santos until the World Cup, get regular minutes on the pitch with his home club, maintain his form, and be ready to play in the World Cup. Still, at some point, the negotiations hit a wall, and the deal was limited to just six months.

The truth is, Neymar has barely left any mark with the black-and-whites since returning to the club six months ago. The Brazilian football superstar has played 12 matches, scoring three goals and providing three assists. But he missed nine games due to injuries. Brazil's new head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has announced that he plans to bring Neymar back into the national team for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, but for him to actually do it, former Barcelona and PSG forwards needs to get back on the pitch and perform. The latest health issues for Neymar happend two weeks ago, when he was tested positive for COVID-19 virus.
