News nearly as good as winning the Champions League - Klopp in Liverpool until 2026

And it is official

It started early this morning with 'shy' posts on social media, "confirmations" on numerous portals of UK tabloids, and during the afternoon several serious journalists - including David Ornstein of The Athletic - came out with information. Now the club themselves posted: Jurgen Klopp has agreed on a new four-year contract with Liverpool!

The German's current deal reads contracted cooperation until 2024 and at the beginning of this year it was said that he would honor the contract until the end, and then withdraw, but obviously there was a big turnaround in the whole story, and Klopp will stay for another two seasons, most likely with a salary increase, taking into account the recent successes of the club from Anfield.

It seemed during last season - and after that pandemic title, the first for the Reds after three decades of waiting - that both Klopp and his team were emotionally drained, that they would hardly be able to repeat the historical achievements of 2019 and 2020 (they finished third in league with 17 points less than the champions City and were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Champions League), however, this and the previous year show that there is fuel in their tanks.

The club executives and the German himself sensed that there is in fact more to fight for and new motives are found - this season's rush for four trophies.

It was clear that something serious was brewing, especially when Klopp's longtime manager and great friend Marc Kosicke and club director, president of Fenway Sports Group - Mike Gordon (the most trusted man of Reds boss John Henry) were photographed next to each other at the game against Villarreal.

This is the third renewal of the contract of the German expert. Klopp was appointed coach of the Reds in October 2015, the first - a six-year contract - he signed after a great start in June 2016, and the second in December 2019, six months after Liverpool became European champions for the sixth time.

The change at the head of the sports sector probably plays a significant role in Jurgen Klopp's decision to extend his stay in the city of the Beatles. This July, after 11 years, Michael Edwards will leave Anfield and will be replaced by Julian Ward, a man with whom the German 'clicks' perfectly and shares his opinion on many issues, especially those related to the further development of the club.

After inking the contract, Klopp told of his delight to Liverpool FC.

“There are so many words I could use to describe how I am feeling about this news… delighted, humbled, blessed, privileged and excited would be a start.

“There is just so much to love about this place. I knew that before I came here, I got to know it even better after I arrived and now I know it more than ever before.

“There is a freshness about us as a club still and this energises me. For as long as I have been here, our owners have been unbelievably committed and energetic about this club and it is clear that right now this applies to our future as much as I’ve ever known.

“I didn’t need too long to answer in truth. The answer was very simple… I’m in love with here and I feel fine!”

In the seven years in Liverpool so far, Klopp has won five trophies - the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the Premier League, the League Cup and the European Super Cup.

If he fulfills the new contract to the end, he will stay in the club for a full 11 seasons and be close to 60 years old.
