Newcastle reliving trauma: Woltemade doesn't hide his affection for Liverpool

After what happened in Alexander Isak's case, the Magpies' fans won't be pleased to hear their new striker's answers on the Premier League podcast

When Alexander Isak finally joined Liverpool after a several-month-long transfer saga, Newcastle fans saw it as a betrayal. They labeled the Swede a "rat" and started perceiving the Reds as one of their primary rivals.

Still, no one is irreplaceable, so the Magpies splurged €75 million for Stuttgart's Nick Woltemade, who was considered a decent successor of Isak. The impression significantly improved when the German netted a winner against Wolverhampton on his debut with a new club.

However, only ten days later, Woltemade possibly gave them a reason for concern.

Namely, the striker answered a series of quick questions on the Premier League podcast, and some of them evoked the Magpies' fans' traumatic memories of Isak's case, making them face the same nightmare all over again.

Woltemade highlighted ex-Bayer Leverkusen man and now Liverpool forward, Florian Wirtz, as the most talented player he'd played with and pinpointed none other than the Reds' captain Virgil van Dijk as the toughest defender he expected to face.

Moreover, he named the Scousers' legend, Steven Gerrard, his all-time favourite Premier League player and revealed that the away stadium he was looking forward to playing at was - Anfield!

Now, Newcastle fans may be exaggerating a bit, as Woltemade has just joined their side and his affection for Liverpool means nothing, but, at the same time, the saying "Once bitten, twice shy" exists for a reason.
