The Magpies eliminated United from the League Cup at Old Trafford

Ahead of the Carabao Cup fourth round game against Manchester United at Old Trafford, Newcastle had a great run of results but a lot of injury problems. They had only two wingers and one striker healthy, and the starting 11 was too tired against Wolves. After this game, the Magpies are playing Arsenal on Saturday and then travel to Dortmund. So, coach Eddie Howe decided to rest most of the starting 11. He put in two reserve full backs (Livramento and Targett), two reserve full backs as the center backs (Emil Kraft and Paul Dummet), one left back as a midfielder (Hall) and winger as a striker (Gordon) The result? An easy 3-0 win at Old Trafford.

United smashed the other United, who also played with a different squad as coach Erik Ten Hag, knows for not rotating squads in the Cup changed seven players who were defeated by City on Sunday. This was the full revenge to the current Carabao Cup winners as it was United who won 2-0 in last year's final against this same Newcastle. But the Magpies totally deserved the win tonight, as they were severely handicaped by injuries but still played better that once great United, with footballers like Casemiro, Mount, Antony and Martial in the starting lineup. This defeat is even worse for the Red Devils when we look at the statistics: players like Dubravka, Matt Richie and Emile Kraft didn't play a single minute this season until this game, while others had little minutes in their legs: Dummet (90 minutes), Hall (54), Targett (184).

After just five minutes Targett had to go out and Almiron came in. he scored the first goals after a great assist from young Livramento. Little over half an hour and it was already silence Old Trafford. Young Hall ran on the ball after a Maguire clearance and smashed it to the net for a pandemonium at the away stand. Amrabat came in after the break, but he lost the ball in the 60th minute and Willock smashed another beauty for the final 3-0. United's first team players went in, but they couldn't do anyting as the away fans cheered every time Newcastle players passed the ball. Old Trafford was half empty by then.
