Kenyan champions Gor Mahia have announced a squad of 25 players and seven officials for the CECAFA Kagame Cup, starting on Tuesday, July 9, in Tanzania.

The team, aiming for their fourth regional title, departed on Sunday night for the competition that makes a return after a three-year hiatus.

Leading the Green Army contingent are new signings Chris Akena, Samuel Kapen, and striker Gedeon Bendeka Mololia, unveiled by the 21-time Kenya Premier League champions last week.

Bendeka, a Congolese striker from Rwandese side Etincelles FC, scored 13 goals in 22 games last season, finishing third in the top scorer's list.

Midfielder Akena joined from Greek League 2 side Apollon Pontou FC. The 21-year-old began his career at Proway Sports Academy in Uganda and has played for Aspire Academy in Qatar, Uganda Premier League side Maroons, Shabab Al Ahli Club, Al Rams Club in UAE, and Greek third-tier club Megas Alexandros Agias Marinas.

While Samuel Kapen inked a deal from another top-flight side Nairobi City Stars.

Another notable face expected to feature in the tournament is left-back Levin Odhiambo, who joined the team midway through last season but could not play for the club since he signed after the window had closed.

The team also includes Rooney Onyango, Dolph Owino, Paul Ochuoga, Sylvester Owino, Austin Odhiambo, and Benson Omala, who recently played in the COSAFA tournament in South Africa with the Emerging Stars.

Brazilian coach Leonardo Veira and assistant coach Zedekiah Otieno, who joined from Sofapaka, lead the officials.

The tournament winner will receive over three million in prize money. Gor Mahia is in Pool B with Zambian champions Red Arrows, Sudanese giants Al Hilal, and Djibouti's Telcom FC.

They kick off their campaign against Red Arrows on Wednesday at the Azam Complex, followed by matches against Telcom and Al Hilal.
